چکیده

Ahstract~~alculations for the two-dimensional driven cavity incompressible flow problem are presented. A p-type Jinite element scheme for the fully coupled stream function-vorticity formulation of the Navier-Stokes equations is used. Graded meshes are used to resolve vortex flow features and minimize the impact of comer singularities. Incremental continuation in the Reynolds number allows solutions to be computed for Re = 12 500. A significant feature of the work is that new tertiary and quaternary corner vortex features are observed in the flow field. Comparisons are made with other solutions in the literature.

Comparison of three different numerical schemes for 2D steady incompressible lid-driven cavity flow

In this study, a numerical solution of 2D steady incompressible lid-driven cavity flow is presented. Three different numerical schemes were employed to make a comparison on the practicality of the methods. An alternating direction implicit scheme for the vorticity-stream function formulation, explicit and implicit schemes for the primitive variable formulation of governing Navier-Stokes equatio...

Numerical Study of Flow and Heat Transfer in a Square Driven Cavity

A numerical approach called “SIMPLER” is used to investigate the  flow and heat transfer characteristics in a square driven cavity. The two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations were solved and the results are depicted as contour plots of stream function, vorticity, and total pressure for Reynolds numbers from 1 to 10000. At the higher values of Reynolds number, an inviscid core re...

Solution to two-dimensional Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations with SIMPLE, SIMPLER and Vorticity-Stream Function Approaches. Driven-Lid Cavity Problem: Solution and Visualization

In that report solution to incompressible Navier Stokes equations in non dimensional form will be presented. Standard fundamental methods: SIMPLE, SIMPLER (SIMPLE Revised) and Vorticity-Stream function approach are compared and results of them are analyzed for standard CFD test case Drived Cavity flow. Different aspect ratios of cavity and different Reynolds numbers are studied.

Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin Method– Steady, Non-Isothermal Fluid Flow Applications

Abstract : The meshless local Petrov-Galerkin method with unity as the weighting function has been applied to the solution of the Navier-Stokes and energy equations. The Navier-Stokes equations in terms of the stream function and vorticity formulation together with the energy equation are solved for a driven cavity flow for moderate Reynolds numbers using different point distributions. The L2-...

Numerical Simulation of the Incompressible Laminar Flow Over a Square Cylinder

Simulation of fluid flow over a square cylinder can be performed in order to understand the physics of the flow over bluff bodies. In the current study, incompressible laminar flow over a confined square cylinder, with variable blockage factor has been simulated numerically, using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The focus has been on vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of the cylinder. Vorticity...
